MEDIA ADVISEMENT

April 19, 2001

The week of April 23 is National Crime Victims Rights Week. To mark this week in Shasta County, the following events are planned:

On Tuesday, April 24, the Shasta County Board of Supervisors will adopt a formal proclamation commemorating victims and then recess at approximately 9:15 a.m. for a short ceremony on the steps of the Shasta County Courthouse to recognize victims of crime in Shasta County. Family members will pay tribute to the memories of Carol Garton, Kyle Edwards, and Terri Peters by participating in the ceremony.

On Wednesday, April 25, at 11:45 a.m., a luncheon will be held at the Veterans Hall located at 1620 Yuba Street in Redding to honor victims and those who work to help victims. Specific program items include recognition of local law enforcement officers who work to help victims, a statement by Kyle Edwards' father Ron Edwards, recognition of Roger Hubley for outstanding courage, and awards to be presented to middle and senior high school students who participated in an essay and art contest.

On Thursday, April 26, at 5:30 p.m. several community agencies will co-sponsor the Take Back the Night event at the new Civic Center grounds located at 777 Cypress Avenue.

Inquiries or questions should be directed to Joyce Gardner, coordinator of the Victim/Witness Program at 225-5220.
